The creep is the main enemy in the game, spawning a wave each round when the timer hits 0. It's the only source of minerals in the game outside of income and increases in difficulty each round. Waves 1-10 have 15% damage reduction. Waves 16-31 increase in damage reduction to compensate for the player's increasingly big income rates.
